Editor's Note — The Setup
A compressed, high-stakes four-day week heading into H2

The June NFP on Thursday July 2 is the most consequential data point of the week and the last major labor read before July FOMC. After Warsh's hawkish June 17 debut — dot plot flipped to a hike, nine of 18 FOMC members project a hike this year — and PCE coming in at 4.1% YoY headline on Thursday (above expectations), the job market is the final swing variable for September hike probability. Consensus is 135K vs May's 172K blowout. Warsh speaks Wednesday at the ECB's Sintra symposium in Portugal — his first major public remarks since the June FOMC and May PCE data. Nike Q4 (Tuesday after close) provides the week's earnings focal point and sets the tone for consumer discretionary heading into H2 2026.

Key Themes & What to Watch
Theme #1 — The Main Event
NFP Thursday — The Hawkish Fed's Jobs Test

Consensus is 135K, down from May's 172K blowout. A strong print (+175K+) deepens September hike probability; a weak print (<100K) introduces stagflation language.

Theme #2 — Fed Watch
Warsh at Sintra — Post-PCE Tone Is Everything

His first major public appearance since the June FOMC and the 4.1% PCE print. Any signal softer than June 17 is a dovish catalyst; any hardening is negative for risk into a long weekend.

Theme #3 — Earnings
Nike Q4 — Turnaround or Trouble?

Stock down 35% YTD near 12-year lows. Key watch: China revenue trend, gross margin improvement, and Q1 FY2027 guide. World Cup 2026 is the sentiment catalyst.

Theme #4 — JOLTS + ADP
JOLTS + ADP — NFP Prelims

JOLTS openings have been moderating. ADP consensus 130–140K. Together they frame Thursday's print before markets close for the holiday.

Theme #5 — Macro
ISM Manufacturing + H2 Positioning

Consensus 53.7 — prices-paid watched alongside Warsh's Sintra comments. Monday's Q2/H1 close brings significant institutional rebalancing flows.

Theme #6 — Context
Iran Deal & H2 Setup

The interim deal has brought Brent below $80. Key H2 question: does energy disinflation translate into softer PCE, giving Warsh room to hold without a hike?
